Jessica Long Breaks S8 100 Fly World Record in Canada

On the final day of the 2012 Can-Am Meet in Manitoba, Jessica Long has broken her second World Record of the meet, with a Sunday-evening 1:10.13 in the S8 women’s 100 fly.

That time cleared the 1:10.77 that Long swam in prelims of June’s Paralympic Trials. In this swim, Long went about equally as fast, but came home much better on the back-half to make up the whole of the six-tenths drop. This result puts an even bigger gap between Long and world number-two Kateryna Istomina of the Ukraine (1:12.88). Coming early in the schedule on the first day of swimming, this will be her first shot at gold in London. Long sat out of the 400 free at this meet, where she is working on a possible three-peat at this year’s Paralympics.

This is Long’s second World Record in as many days, after getting the 50 mark on Saturday.
