On the morning of January 3rd, Tecumseh High School’s Jacob Schaedler passed away in a snowmobile crash in Coldsprings Township, Michigan. Schaedler, a Michigan State High School Championship qualifier, was driving a 2002 Arctic Cat snowmobile without a helmet when the crash occurred.  Jacob died at 17 years old.

According to the police investigation, Schaedler lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree as the snowmobile ran off the road, and the teen was declared dead at the scene. They have determined that speed may have factored into the crash.

According to his obituary, Schaedler began swimming competitively at 8 years old. He was a member of the 2014-2015 state championship team for his high school, where he competed in the 200 IM. Aside from swimming competitively, he mentored young kids who were learning how to swim and worked as a lifeguard. He was also a talented artist, welder, and sailor. Community members gathered at the Tecumseh Community Pool on Sunday night to remember Jacob and the smiles he brought to their faces.
