Izotov Collects Four Golds At Cup of Russia Stage Two

Stage two of the Cup of Russia took place from June 2nd-4th in Rostov-on-Don, Russia. The biggest name there was two-time Olympic medalist Danila Izotov, who collected two individual and two relay gold medals at the meet. Izotov came out on top in the 100 free (50.07) and the 200 free (1:51.04). Izotov led off the 400 free relay in a slightly faster time than his individual race in 49.77. Izotov qualified for the 2016 Olympics in the 800 free relay.

The top point scoring swim on the men’s side didn’t go to Izotov, but Oleg Kostin, who put up a time of 28.10 to win the 50 breaststroke. Kostin had an impressive individual haul of five medals, adding another gold in the 50 fly (23.93), and also taking 2nd in the 50 back and 100 fly and 3rd in the 100 back.

The highest point scoring swim on the women’s side was from Ekaterina Tarasova in the 50 back, clocking 29.65. Tarasova also won the 100 back (1:03.85) and was 3rd in the 200 back (2:21.99).

The biggest medal haul came from Diana Sheludchenko, who picked up four gold medals and a bronze. Sheludchenko won gold in the 400 IM (4:54.33) and bronze in the 200 IM (2:24.98). 200 IM winner Alexandra Kramarenko won three individual medals of her own, also finishing 2nd in the 400 IM (4:55.61) and 3rd in the 100 fly (1:04.14) to go along with her 200 IM win (2:20.56).
