Italy’s Pirozzi Scratches 400 IM on Day 8 of FINA Worlds

2017 FINA WORLD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Sunday marks the final day of competition of the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and swimming fans will get to see the heats of 4 events during this morning’s preliminary session. It should be a quick finals session, as swimmers will only be competing in the 400 IM and 400 medley relay for both the men and women.

Italy’s Stefania Pirozzi was the only major scratch out of the final preliminary session of the meet. Pirozzi was the 15th seed for the women’s 400 IM, but has opted out of the event. Her season best time is a 4:38.40 from Italian Nationals, which makes her the 14th fastest swimmer in the world this year. Individually, Pirozzi’s only other event at this meet was the 200 fly. She advanced to the semifinals in that event, but came up short of making the final with an 11th place finish.
