Italy and Hungary Top Medal Table After Day 1 Of 2016 European C’ships

Just two individual medals were up for grabs on day 1 of the 2016 European Championships, but Italy’s Gabriele Detti and Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu took full advantage of the opportunities.

Detti claimed gold in the men’s 400m freestyle, while Hosszu took the top prize in the women’s 400m IM to kick off the 7-day competition. Other gold medals came in the form of France winning the men’s 400 freestyle relay and the Netherlands taking gold in the women’s version of that same event.

Competition continues tomorrow morning, with an additional medals ripe for the taking during day 2 finals.
