Iowa Sweeps Big Ten Women’s Weekly Awards

The Iowa women swept the Big Ten weekly awards, with Emma Sougstad garnering swimmer of the week honors. Sougstad won the 200 IM (2:01.39), 100 breast (1:00.50), and 200 breast (2:12.95) to lead the team to victory over Iowa State. Abbey Schneider won freshman of the week after posting wins in the  500 (4:53.32) and 1,000 (10:03.34) against Iowa State. Morgan Rafferty was named diver of the week for her first place finish in the 1-meter.

Swimmer of the Week
Emma Sougstad, Iowa

Jr. – Forest City, Iowa – Forest City

  • Recorded first-place finishes and Beyer Pool records in all four events she competed in, leading Iowa to a 198-101 dual meet win over Iowa State
  • Earned NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.39), 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.50) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.95), while contributing to a mark of 1:40.29 in the 200-medley relay
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns her third career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award

Diver of the Week

Morgan Rafferty, Iowa

So. – West Des Moines, Iowa – Valley

  • Collected first- and second-place finishes in the one-meter event (296.02) and three-meter diving competition (309.98), respectively against Iowa State
  • Recorded NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both events, and a career-best mark on the three-meter board
  • Earns her first career Diver of the Week honor
  • Last Iowa Diver of the Week: Abby Grilli (Jan. 21, 2014)

  • Earned two first-place touches in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.32) and 1,000-yard freestyle (10:03.34) against Iowa State
