Iowa State Cyclones Bring in Verbals from Haas and Tranel

Two USA Swimming Scholastic All-Americans, Kennedy Tranel of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, and Martha Haas of Minnetonka, Minnesota, have both given their verbal commitments to swim for the Iowa State University Cyclones in 2017-18.

Haas is a senior at Minnetonka High School who specializes in breaststroke and IM. At the 2015 MSHSL Girls AA Swim & Dive Championships, she placed fourth in the 100 breast and eighth in the 200 IM. She also swam the breaststroke leg of Minnetonka’s medley relay and contributed to their 400 free relay’s bronze medal finish.

Haas swims year round for the Aquajets Swim Team. She competed in the 50/100/200 free, 50/100 back, and 50/100/200 breast at the 2016 Dolfin Junior National Championship Cup last March, reaching the B finals of the 50 back and all three breaststroke events. At Iowa State she will be joining fellow Aquajets alumnae Brooke Evensen, Haley Ruegemer, and Emma Ruehle. Her best SCY times are:

  • 50 breast – 30.41
  • 100 breast – 1:03.82
  • 200 IM – 2:06.45
  • 50 back – 27.40
  • 50 free – 24.53
  • 100 free – 52.52

A senior at Mukwonago High School, Tranel is a versatile freestyler/butterfly/IMer over a variety of distances. She has been an A finalist the last two year in a row in both the 200 free and 500 free at Wisconsin Girls Division 1 State Championships. Tranel also swims for Waukesha Express Swim Team, where she was an A finalist in the 400m free, 200m fly, and 200m IM at the 2016 Wisconsin 13 & Over Long Course State Championship this summer; she also competed in the B finals of the 100/200m free and 100m fly. Her top SCY times include:

  • 100 free – 52.33
  • 200 free – 1:51.59
  • 500 free – 4:59.17
  • 100 fly – 57.58
  • 200 fly – 2:06.06
  • 400 IM – 4:29.47
