WILL SCOTT

Iowa Flyers Swim Club’s Will Scott will add depth to a growing sprint group at Iowa. He’s a pure sprint freestyler, with a Winter National cut in the 50y free and Winter Juniors cuts in the 50m free as well as the 100y free.

  • 50y free – 20.51
  • 100y free – 45.50
  • 50m free – 23.77
  • 100m free – 53.50

Iowa bolstered their sprint group with current freshmen Matt Kamin and Jack Smith, both having already flexed their muscles in the sprints in recent Iowa dual meets, and Scott will fit in nicely with the program.

Swimming for West High School, Scott placed 4th in the 50 free and swam on both of West’s victorious free relays at last season’s Iowa HS State Championships.

Scott is just a few tenths off of what it took to make the C final in the 50 free last season, though he’ll also be useful to load up sprint relays.

Streightiff, a diver for Lake Forest High School in Illinois, recently placed 4th at the 2015 IHSA State Championships. He’s improved from not being top-16 his freshman year, to placing 13th his sophomore year, and now 4th as a junior. He scored 458.25 points at the IHSA Champs last year in his 4th place performance. Streightiff told SwimSwam that “Before becoming a year round diver in high school, I mostly played travel league baseball.” A pitcher and a first basemen, Streightiff has moved on to diving, where he’s now headed to a great Big Ten program.

“On my official visit I really connected with the team and also learned of some great academic opportunities that would be perfect for me, which pretty much decided it for me. It’s a great environment. I really enjoyed all of my official visits but I  felt like Iowa is where I could be the most comfortable and be my best.”

Iowa has five divers on their roster this season, led by senior Addison Boschult, who was their lone scorer in the 1-meter diving last year at Big Tens. He also B-finaled in the 3-meter diving and finished 6th overall in platform.

Streightiff will join an Iowa program that’ll be looking for points next year to make up for the graduation of Boschult.

Also committed to Iowa’s class of 2020 is Joseph Myhre (who goes nearly identical sprint free times to Scott) and IL breaststroker Weston Credit.
