Iowa Hosts Annual Hawkeye Invitational

THIS WEEK

The No. 23 University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team hosts the annual Hawkeye Invitational, Friday through Sunday, in Iowa City, Iowa. The competition will be held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. (CT) all three days. Finals will begin at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

PROMOTIONS

Fans can be a part of great promotional events over the course of the weekend. Promotions include:

FRIDAY

  • The Greek house with the most members in attendance will win a VISA gift card.
  • Free Hawkeye cups will be handed out with one specially marked cup winning a prize. SATURDAY
  • “Go Hawks” sunglasses will be handed out.
  • The rubber duck toss into the pool during the night’s finals. SUNDAY

• Pom Poms will be distributed to the 50 fans in attendance .

The meet captains for the invite are seniors Kyle Noser, Gianni Sesto, Dustin Rhoads, Max Behles, Manuel Belzer, Tyler Lentz, and Andrew Marciniak.

HAWKS FALL TO BUCKEYES AND BOILERMAKERS IN B1G ACTION

The Hawkeyes dropped a pair of conference dual meets Nov. 8 to Purdue and Ohio State, in West Lafayette, Ind. The Hawkeyes won three events, but fell to No. 10 Ohio State, 195-105, and No. 22 Purdue, 173-127. Senior Dustin Rhoads posted his second NCAA `B’ cut time of the season in the 100-back, winning the event in 48.36 seconds. This topped Rhoads’ previous `B’ cut time of 48.42, set against Minnesota on Nov. 1. Sophomore Roman Trussov posted a pair of victories., swimming to victories in the 100-breast (54.35) and 200-breast (1:59.82). Trussov’s 100-breast time, an NCAA `B’ cut time, is the third time Trussov has posted a `B’ cut in the event this season.

SCOUTING THE INVITE

Iowa welcomes three swimming and diving teams to Iowa City for three days of competition. University of Denver, Milwaukee, and Notre Dame will all be on hand for the annual event.

HAWKEYES IN THE RANKINGS

The Hawkeyes are ranked 23rd in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, released Nov. 20. The Hawkeyes are one of seven Big Ten programs ranked in the top 25 along with Michigan (1), Minnesota (5), Indiana (9), Ohio State (10), Purdue (12), and Penn State (14).

NCAA ‘B’ CUTS

Sophomore Roman Trussov recorded one NCAA ‘B’ cut time in the Hawkeyes’ dual meet against Purdue and Ohio State on Nov. 8 Nov. 1. Trussov won the 100-breast in 54.35, besting his previous

two ‘B’ cut times he recorded earlier this year in the event. Trussov has also recorded a ‘B’ cut time in the 200-breast event, with a season-best time of 1:59.19. Senior Dustin Rhoads posted his second ‘B’ cut time of the year in the 100-back, finishing in 48.42 against the Boilermakers and Buckeyes to claim the third ‘B’ cut time of the year for the Hawkeyes.

HOLLIDAY HAS BREAKOUT MEET

Sophomore Charles Holliday had his best meet of his collegiate career Oct. 18 against Michigan State, posting three first place finishes to go along with one second place time. Holliday sprinted to the 50-free (20.90) and 100-free (46.34) titles, was a member of the 400-free team that took the top time of 3:04.05, while taking second in the 200-medley team (1:31.48).
