Indiana Reels in Louisiana HS Record-Holder Thomas Vanderbrook

Thomas Vanderbrook, a senior at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Lousiana, has announced via his Twitter account that he has verbally committed to swim for Indiana University next fall.

Vanderbrook is the reigning LHSAA Division 1 champion in both the 200 IM (1:50.78) and 100 back (51.18). His winning time in the IM took 1.3 seconds off the previous LHSAA and Division 1 marks that had stood since 1994. He also split a22.41 50 fly on the medley relay and led off the 400 free relay in 46.31, which would have made him runner-up in the individual event.

Vanderbrook does his year-round swimming at Crescent City Swim Club. At the Louisiana Long Course State Championships this summer, he placed first in the 100m back and 200/400m IM, second in the 50m free, 100m breast and 100m fly, and third in the 100m free. His best SCY times are:

  • 50 free – 21.32
  • 100 free – 45.72
  • 50 back – 24.17
  • 100 back – 50.51
  • 200 IM – 1:50.78
