Illinois Backstroker Max St George Gives Verbal Commitment to Duke

Max St George, a senior at Wheaton North High School in Wheaton, Illinois, has made a verbal commitment to Duke University for 2015-16.

St George is an Illinois high school state finalist in the 200 IM (8th) and 100 back (4th). He swims club at B.R. Ryall YMCA of Northwestern DuPage County. At 2014 YMCA Short Course Nationals, St George placed third in the 100 back. He also finished 18th in the 200 back and 11th in the 200 IM. His top times include:

50y back: 23.97        (23.56 on the relay leadoff leg at YMCA Nationals)
100y back: 49.12      (a 5-second improvement during his junior year)
200y back: 1:49.82
200y IM: 1:52.07
400y IM: 4:08.00
50y free: 22.03
100y free: 48.11

St George’s 100 back time would place fifth on Duke’s all-time top ten list and his 200 back and 200 IM are near-misses. His 100 would have scored at ACC Championships last year; his 200 isn’t far off and he has a whole year to improve. The 100 and 200 backstroke were among Duke’s weaker scoring events.

St George joins Judd Howard who has also verbally committed to the Blue Devils.
