The Houston Swim & Dive team notched 38 top-three finishes en route to a 182-110 win over Incarnate Word in its season opener.

Houston won 11 of the 16 events at the meet, securing 38 top-three finishes. Micaela Bouter got things started for Houston with a first-place finish in the 3-Meter Springboard. The senior tallied up a final of score of 328.25 in the event. Lauren Burrell followed that up with second-place finish after racking up a final score of 295.90.

The Cougars took all three top spots in the 1000-yard Freestyle, led by freshman Reese Lamph with a first-place finish. Conor Glenn and Hannah Herbst rounded out the top three spots in the event.

Three more Cougars took the top-three spots in the 200-yard Freestyle, led by Zarena Brown who took first-place in the event. Samantha Medlin took second-place, followed by Ksenia Yuskova in third.

Laura Laderoute beat out the field in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Rebecca BrandtSharo Rodriguez, and Rebecca Coxtook all three of the top spots in the 200-yard Butterfly.

Three more Cougars swept the podium in the 50-yard Freestyle, followed by second and third-place finishes by Bouter and Burrell in the 1-Meter Springboard.

Mykenzie Leehy notched a first-place finish in the 100-yard Freestyle to kick start her collegiate career, followed by three top-three finishes in the 200-yard Backstroke for Houston.

Houston rounded out the top-four spots in the 500-yard Freestyle, led by a top finish from Brown.

Both the 400 IM and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay were carried out as exhibition events, Houston took first-place in both events.

UP NEXT
Houston will head home to the friendly confines of the CRWC Natatorium to host SMU in a conference clash Oct. 20, followed by a meeting with North Texas on Oct. 21.

The University of the Incarnate Word women’s swimming and diving team came close to the University of Houston in a 182 to 110 battle at their home opener this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the 3-meter and 1- meter diving competitions, Savanna Meadows finished third and posted 286.85 points in the 3- meter, but came back and won the 1-meter with 296.10 points.

To start the swimming portion off, UIW’s Natasha FungMariana Ruvalcaba CruzCassandra Phillips and Ziata Demchenko won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.63, ahead of Houston by .29 of a second.

In the individual events, freshman standout Mariana Ruvalcaba Cruz won the 100 and 20 -yard breaststroke events as well as the 400-yard individual medley.

UP NEXT

Both the men and women’s teams will travel to Arkansas, during fall break October 19-21. They will compete at Ouachita Baptist on Thursday and Little Rock on Saturday.
