Hosszu Takes Three More On Final Day Of Bergen Swim Festival

Hungarian superstar Katinka Hosszu continued her winning ways, taking three more events on the final day of the Bergen Swim Festival in Norway. Hosszu won four events out of six events on the first evening and three out of seven events on the second.

Her first win came in 400 freestyle, her second event of the evening, posting a time of 4:06.26. She was challenged by Julie Aglund Lauridsen of Denmark, who stayed with Hosszu until the 300 meter mark. Lauridsen finished second in a time of 4:07.54.

Cecilie Johannessen of Norway finished third in a time of 4:12.97.

Hosszu followed up her 400 freestyle victory by winning the very next event, the women’s 200 IM. She took the event in a time of 2:14.03. Once again she was challenged by the 18 year old Dane Lauridsen who started to reel in the world champion in the final 50 meters of the event, but fell just short, finishing in a time of 2:14.86.

Sofie Reisaenen of Norway finished third in a time of 2:18.87.

Her final win came in the women’s 50 backstroke, which was once again the very next event, taking the final in a new Hungarian national record time of 27.09. Hosszu broke her own record of 27.18 which she swam at the World Cup in Tokyo last November.

Mie Nielsen of Denmark finished second to Hosszu for the third time in the competition hitting the wall in a time of 27.56. She was followed by Michelle Coleman of Sweden who recorded a time of 27.57.

Jennie Johansson of Sweden took the women’s 50 breaststroke which was the first event of the evening. Johansson posted a time of 30.80 beating Rikke Moeller Pedersen of Denmark by three one-hundredths of a second. Pedersen recorded a time of 30.83.

Hosszu finished third in a time of 31.68.

Daniel Gyurta took the men’s event in a time of 28.24 followed by Bram Dekker of Norway who posted a time of 28.64.

His 50 breaststroke victory was the first of two wins on the night for Gyurta who destroyed his competition in the men’s 200 breaststroke recording a time of 2:04.51. His next closet competitor was Henrik Christiansen of Norway who finished in a time of 2:19.04 while Simen Dale of Norway finished third in a time of 2:25.32.

The men’s 400 freestyle was a tremendous race between Pal Joensen of the Faroe Islands, Anton Ipsen of Denmark and Henrik Christiansen of Norway. Joensen had a lead of half a second over Ipsen and almost a one and a half second lead over Christiansen at the 200 meter mark.

Both Ipsen and Christiansen had a strong final 200 meters, but not enough to catch Joensen who won the event in a time of 3:45.45. Ipsen finished second in a time of 3:45.90 while Christiansen finished third in a time of 3:46.05.

Daniel Skaaning of Denmark took the men’s 200 IM posting a time of 1:58.63. He was followed by Simon Sjodin of Sweden who recorded a time of 1:59.29. Skaaning’s Danish teammate Viktor Bromer finished third in a time of 1:59.52.

Estonian Ralf Tribuntsov the men’s 50 backstroke in a time of 24.58. He was followed by Magnus Jakupsson of Denmark who recorded a time of 25.08 and Alexander Nystrom of Norway who finished in a time of 25.72.

Tribuntsov also took the men’s 100 freestyle in a time of 48.91. His Estonian teammate Martti Aljand finished second in a time of 49.93 followed by Alexander Nystrom who posted a time of 50.09.

Danish star Jeanette Ottesen won the women’s 100 butterfly in a time of 56.29 over three seconds faster than her nearest competitor Katinka Hosszu who took the silver in a time of 59.41. She was followed by Monica Johannsessen of Norway who touched in a time of 1:00.32.

The men’s 100 butterfly was a much closer race. Daniel Steen Andersen of Denmark lead the race from start to finish taking the event in a time of 53.26. He was followed by fellow Dane Viktor Bromer who hit the wall in a time of 53.64 a tenth of second ahead of Martti Aljand who finished in a time of 53.74.

Rikke Moeller Pedersen took the women’s 200 breaststroke with ease winning the event in a time of 2:19.49. Jennie Johansson, who beat Pedersen in the 50 breaststroke earlier in the evening finished second in a time of 2:25.94. Hosszu finished third in a time of 3:40.43.

In the final women’s event of the evening Michelle Coleman took the 100 freestyle in a time of 52.85. Pernille Blume of Denmark finished second in a time of 53.06 followed by Cecilie Johannsessen of Norway who touched in a time of 54.63.

Hosszu finished just outside the medals in the event posting a time of 54.68.
