The Hungarian also qualified second in the 200 backstroke (2:12.16), fourth in the 50 freestyle (25.63) and sixth in the 50 backstroke (28.88).

Russian Daria-K Ustinova, who won the 200 backstroke at the World Cup in Moscow, qualified for the top spot in the 200 backstroke final posting a 2:10.27. Ustinova will be challenged by the three women who stood on the podium in Kazan; Australian Emily Seebohm (2:15.22), American Missy Franklin (2:12.64) and Hosszu.

Seebohm will also be looking to collect gold in the 50 backstroke, something she did in Moscow. American Natalie Coughlin is going in as the top qualifier with a time of 27.99, followed by Beryl Gastaldello of France and Seebohm who posted a 28.09.

Franklin is also set to compete for the 200 freestyle title after qualifying for the final behind Hosszu and Lara Grangeon of France.

On the men’s side South African Cameron van der Burgh had an impressive morning swim in the men’s 50 breaststroke recording a time of 26.88, nearly a second ahead of Giacomo Perez Dortona of France who had the morning’s second fastest time of 27.73.

Camille Lacourt of France will look to repeat the success he had in the 100 backstroke in Moscow going into tonight’s final with the top time of 55.04. Australians Josh Beaver (55.06) and Ashley Delaney (55.28) were the next two fastest qualifiers.

New PB for Anna Santamans who was the fastest in the women’s 50 free prelims in 24.76.

And Gastaldello could break her own 50 back French record behind Coughlin in final and become the first French girl in 27.

Nice swim by Natalie! Her backstroke is once again rising to the top of the world. BTW Jeff Seebohm got bronze not gold in the 50 backstroke in Kazan.
