Ann Arbor Skyline snapped a 4-year win streak by Birmingham Brother Rice, taking the team title convincingly. After finishing as runner-up last year, they won the team title by 67 points. They won a relay and 4 individual events, with David Cleason, a senior and Michigan recruit, winning the 200 IM and 500 free and helping the 400 free relay to a win.

Cleason was a little off his prelims time from the 200 IM (1:49.04), posting a 1:49.81 to still hang on for the win. He touched just ahead of teammate Michael MacGillivray, a fellow Michigan recruit, who dropped 1.2 seconds from his prelims time to finish 2nd in 1:50.27. Cleason outsplit MacGillivray on all but the breaststroke 50, where MacGillivray threw down a 30.92 to Cleason’s 32.05. MacGillivray went on to win the 100 breast, posting a lifetime best 55.01 to touch out Maxwell Chen, a Troy senior.

Cleason then won the 500, tearing home in a 51.80 on the last 100 to pass Livonia Stevenson junior Ben Rojewski, finishing in 4:30.50 to 4:31.15. Cleason was 6th at the 100 mark, and 4th at the 200 mark, but had the fastest split in the field in each of the last 6 50s.

The Ann Arbor Skyline 400 free relay team of Kyle Tschannen, Samuel Jyawook, David Cleason, and Michael MacGillivray led from the beginning and managed to hold off a charging Henry Schutte, who split a blistering 43.73 on the Forest Hills Central anchor leg. Tschannen led off with a 46.19, followed by splits of 46.69, 45.48, and 46.63 respectively to post a final time of 3:04.99.

Henry Schutte also backed up his stellar prelims performances in the 200 medley relay, 50 free, and 100 free. Schutte anchored the Forest Hills Central 200 medley relay team in almost exactly the same as he did in prelims, throwing down a 19.30 to his prelims 19.29. He then went 20.04 to win the 50 free, just off his prelims time and MHSAA record of 20.01. He was the only non-senior in the field, and won by over half a second. Schutte also won the 100 free by 1.5 seconds, blasting a 44.16. That time was .56 seconds faster than his prelims time, and a new lifetime best. That puts Schutte just .61 seconds off ASU star Cameron Craig‘s MHSAA record of 43.55 with 1 more year to try and break it.
