Henrique Rodrigues Posts 4th-Ranked Time in 200 IM in Brazil

With Cesar Cielo taking the session off, Henrique Rodrigues stepped up and stole the show at the 3rd-day of the Brazilian World Championship Trials, the second of three world Championship qualifying meets. The versatile Rodrigues rewarded those fans who hung around until the last race of the day by blasting a 1:59.02 in the men’s 200 IM. That leaves him ranked 4th in the world this year, though well behind Michael Phelps’ 1:56.8, and is just .02 off of what he swam at Pan Pacs last year. It looks like his new training ground (Rodrigues is reported to be a part of Cielo’s PRO-16 team) is paying off big-time.

Fabiola Molina took her second even title of the meet in the women’s 100 backstroke with a mark of 1:00.89. That time is good enough to earn her a spot in Shanghai, and gives her a shot at a really great mark in two weeks at Maria Lenk.

Other Event Winners:

Ana Carolina Santos won the women’s 400 free in 4:27.16.
Lucas Kanieski won the men’s 400 free in 3:55.20.
Leonardo de Jesus won the men’s 100 back in 55.78, ahead of Guilherme Guido in 55.80.
Joanna Maranhao won the women’s 200 IM in 2:18.45.
