Henrique Barbosa Under the Guidance of Fred Vergnoux Once Again

South American record holder Henrique Barbosa has decided change the direction of his training and rejoin Fred Vergnoux‘s elite group in Spain.

The Brazilian breaststroker made a switch in coaches in September deciding to move to his training base to the United Kingdom. At that time Barbosa joined David McNulty‘s program at the University of Bath. McNulty guided Michael Jamieson to success at the 2012 Olympics where he won silver in the 200 breaststroke.

This move is interesting, but not surprising as Barbosa has been coached by Vergnoux in the past. He was Barbosa’s coach in 2009 when he experienced his greatest success breaking the South American records in the 100 (59.03) and 200 breaststroke (2:08.44).

Barbosa is currently training with Vergnoux’s group, which includes world record holder Mireia Belmonte, at an altitude camp in Sierra Nevada.
