Hawaii State Champion Ana Eyre Announces Verbal Commitment to Columbia

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ana Eyre, from Makawao on the island of Maui, has announced her verbal commitment* to Columbia University’s class of 2024. She serves on the Hawaiian Swimming LSC board and told SwimSwam, “[I] love to represent the athletes here–the competitive swimming environment in the Hawaiian Islands is like no other and I am so glad to be a part of something so motivating and overflowing with aloha.

“I have been swimming with Maui Dolphins Swim Club for 7 years. We are a small team, and I am grateful for my close teammates and coaches because I have been able to develop a genuine passion for swimming, and I am really looking forward to being on a collegiate team and elevating my skills and spirit.”

Eyre is a senior at King Kekaulike High School who specializes in sprint freestyle. She was Maui Interscholastic League Female Swimmer of the Year last season, and is the three-time defending champion in the 50 freestyle at the Maui Interscholastic League Championships. At the 2019 Hawaii Swimming & Diving State Championship, she placed second in both the 50 free (24.10) and 100 free (52.75) and anchored the fifth-place 200 free relay (23.98). In club swimming, Eyre won the 50 free (23.95) and 200 free (1:52.87) and was third in the 100 free (52.66) and 500 free (5:04.10) at the LSC Senior Short Course Championships last November. Eyre notched PBs at Federal Way Spring Sectionals in the 200 free, 100 back, and 100 fly.

Eyre’s best 50 free time would have placed her in the C final at 2019 Ivy League Women’s Championships. It took 51.52 to score in the 100 free and 1:52.49 to score in the 200 free. Mary Ashby, Columbia’s top scorer in sprint free, has since graduated so Eyre will join current freshmen Isabelle Arevalo, Olivia Jubin, Tina Le, and Kaleigh McGrady; sophomores Clare Larsen and Claire Lin; and juniors Jessica He and Emily Wang in the sprint group.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 23.62
  • 100 free – 52.03
  • 200 free – 1:52.63
  • 500 free – 5:04.10

“I am beyond ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Columbia University in the City of New York! I’m in love with the diverse feel of the city, the elegant campus, elite academic environment, outstanding coaching staff, and FAST team that I get to become a part of next year. I’d like to express my gratitude to my parents, family, coaches, mentors, teachers, and friends for inspiring me to work hard and achieve my dreams. I can’t wait to be a lion in 2020!”
