Greg Wriede, Longtime Coach of Peddie School and Peddie Aquatics, Steps Down

After 20 years at the helm of the Peddie School and Peddie Aquatics Association, Greg Wriede has announced that he will be departing both roles. He will remain on staff with the school as an assistant coach while serving in a new position as the Director of Community Life.

“As an alumnus of the school, it will be exciting to serve the student body of an institution that has meant so much to me. This new position will also afford me more time with my family at this stage of my life, which is something I am really looking forward to.  Serving as the Director of Competitive Swimming for Peddie for the past 20 years has been a dream job. Peddie Swimming changed the course of my swimming career 25 years ago and the honor of continuing the legacy of the swim team has always been a driving force behind my coaching. The program we have built is as strong as it has ever been and that is due to the dedication of our coaching staff, the athletes who believe in our mission, and the parents that support our program. I am excited to see what the future holds!”

The Peddie Aquatics Association has been one of the most successful teams in the state of New Jersey, with former members of the team having competed at every Olympic Games between 1992 and 2012. Most recently the team was represented by Bermuda’s multiple event national record holder Roy-Allan Burch in 2008 and 2012. Since taking over the club in 2001, Wriede has coached 13 athletes to various national team appearances, including Connor Signorin, who was a member of the United States National Team in 2011, and Patrick Park, who was a member of the United States Junior National Team in 2014.

At the Peddie School, Wriede led his team to top-10 national rankings on three different occasions. On the boy’s side, in both 2010 and 2013, the team was ranked 5th nationally, while the girl’s team reached 10th for independent schools in 2010.

Internationally, Wriede served on the staff for both the United States and Jamaica. From 2009-2011, and again during the 2014-2015 season, he was named as a coach to the USA National Junior Team. For Jamaica, he was named the head coach of the Jamaican National Youth Team for the 2010 Youth Olympics, held in Singapore.

Wriede, who is a graduate of Peddie School, swam at Harvard University, winning the school’s Eugene B. Wyman trophy, given to the team’s top dual meet scorer, all four years. A multiple-time NCAA All-American, he went on to represent the United States at the 1999 World University Games.

Greg is one of two members of his family to attend and swim for Harvard prior to beginning a coaching career. His sister, Stephanie Wriede Morawski, swam at the school from 1988-1992 and has served as the head coach of the women’s team there for the past 24 years. She also spent time coaching at the Peddie School, having served as an assistant for two years prior to returning to her alma mater.

1992 as well. Didn’t Nelson Diebel swim for Peddie at one time?

Best of luck moving forward! Curious, does it have anything to do with them getting a new AD?
