Greensboro Community YMCA’s Laurel Kiselis verbally committed to the Cornell University class of 2020*. Kiselis is a senior at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina; she came in ninth in both the 50 free and 100 free at the 2015 NCHSAA 4A State Championships, and was on Northwest Guildford’s 200 medley (breaststroke leg) and 400 free relays.

Kiselis is a YMCA Nationals participant; she competed in the 50/100/200 freestyle events at both this year’s long course and short course championships. Her best times are:

  SCY LCM
50 Free 23.84 27.37
100 Free 51.27 59.74
200 Free 1:53.34 2:10.87
500 Free 5:12.38

At 6’1” Kiselis has the potential to develop into one of Cornell’s all-time sprinters. She will arrive in Ithaca with several times that would have scored for the Big Red at 2015 Ivy League Women’s Championship: her best 50 free would have landed her in the C final, while her 100 free would have made the B final and put her on Cornell’s all-time top-10 list. Cornell has a strong tradition of excellence in sprint freestyle; the current group is led by senior Jenna Immormino.

A USA Swimming Scholastic All-Amercian, Kiselis will join fellow commits Cape Murch Elliot and Chloe Mikles in the Cornell University class of 2020.

*DISCLAIMER: Kiselis has not yet been officially accepted to Cornell. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Cornell’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete at Cornell is for Admissions to review (her) transcript and SAT scores, “support (her) application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer (her) acceptance into the class of 2020.
