In a time when collegiate swimming programs are on the athletic chopping block in the name of cost savings and capital maximization, it is refreshing to report that a new women’s swimming and diving program is being initiated.
The University of Sioux Falls (USF) has announced the addition of a women’s swimming and diving program to begin with the 2016-17 season. The Division II school is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), of which Augustana College and University of Mary also compete. USF will make 7 total conference teams supporting the sport of swimming.
During the 2015-16 academic year, USF will be looking to fill both the swimming and diving head coach position, as well as roster spots.
Of the program’s induction, NSIC Commissioner, Erin Lind, said, ““We are proud to bring back women’s swimming and diving in the NSIC and are grateful for our institutions that are committed to the sport and student-athletes for the long term.”
USF Athletic Director Josh Snyder added, “The addition of women’s swimming will allow us to reach a new base of students and enhance the athletics offerings of our current NCAA-sponsored sports. We hope to continue growing our student enrollment at USF, and this decision enables us to potentially add another 20 student-athletes to our athletics department while continuing to provide the same first-class collegiate athletics experience for our students.”
