Georgia, Florida Women Each Get Diver into A-Final of 3 Meter on Day 1 of 2015 SEC Championships

The first women’s points of the 2015 SEC Championships have been set-in-stone after the completion of the 3-meter prelims event in Auburn, Alabama.

Two of the primary contenders for the team title, Georgia and Florida, each did what they were expected to do and got one diver into the A-final. For Florida, that was the 2nd qualifier Kahlia Warner, and for Georgia it was the 8th qualifier, and freshman, Olivia Ball. While the Bulldogs aren’t as strong in diving as they were last season, getting an immediate major contribution from Ball will go a long way if they hope to win their 6th-straight SEC Championship.

In total, Kentucky’s diving group continued to be spectacular, with two of the top three spots in prelims going to Wildcats. On the flip side, the once-stalwart Tennessee diving group has taken a slide: the Volunteers won’t score a single point in this event.

Scoring reminder:
A Final:
32-28-27-26-25-24-23-22
B Final:
20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11
C Final:
9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

In diving, the B and C finals aren’t contested, so places are allocated based on prelims results for all but the top 8. That means that a certain number of points (155 to be exact) are set in stone. Those tallies are below, with asterisks for teams whose scoring isn’t done for the event.

The A-final will be competed along with the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay in Tuesday’s finals session.

Scoring through prelims:

  • South Carolina – 27*
  • Missouri – 22*
  • Texas A&M – 20
  • Auburn – 19
  • Alabama – 17
  • LSU – 14**
  • Kentucky – 14**
  • Florida – 11*
  • Arkansas – 11
