Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Tavanh “TJ” Pittenger has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Georgia men’s swimming and diving team for 2021-22. Also committed to the Bulldogs’ class of 2025 are Henre Louw, Jackson Bates, Mitchell Norton, Ryan Wylie, Sam Parker, and Zach Kohm.

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The University of Georgia! I’d like to thank my coaches, teammates, family, and friends for helping me reach this goal. GO DAWGS!”

A junior at Northgate High School in Newnan, Georgia, Pittenger won the 6A 50 free (20.58) and was runner-up in the 100 free (46.02) at the 2020 GHSA 6-7A State Championships in February. A year ago he had finished 3rd in the 50 free (21.45) and 7th in the 200 free (1:43.72). In club swimming, Pittenger trains with SwimAtlanta in Lawrenceville, Georgia. He was a member of SwimAtlanta’s 1st-place 4×50 free and 4×100 free relays at 2019 Speedo Winter Juniors East. He anchored the former in 19.80 and split 44.91 on the 3rd leg of the latter. He also split 1:40.68 on the 4×200 free relay, anchored the medley relay in 45.35, placed 22nd (20.74) in the individual 50 free final, and came in 36th in prelims of the 100 free (45.82). At Southern Premier in March, he finished 5th in the 50 free, 9th in the 100 free, and 21st in the 200 free. He also competed in the 100 breast, 100 fly, and 200 IM and finished the meet with new PBs in the 200 free and 100 breast.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 20.49
  • 100 free – 45.82
  • 200 free – 1:40.23

The Georgia men came in 3rd, 20 points behind Texas A&M and 20 points ahead of Alabama, at 2020 SEC Championships. It took 19.77/43.60/1:35.71 to score in the freestyle events. Pittenger will overlap two years with freshman Dillon Downing (19.32/43.09), Georgia’s top sprinter in 2019-20.
