George Washington Swimming Kicks Off Homecoming Weekend on Friday

WASHINGTON- The George Washington men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host local foe Howard on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool. The dual-meet will be the first competition hosted by the Colonials in 2015. The meet will not feature a dive component on the schedule of events.

GW’s men’s and women’s squads both enter the contest after dropping double dual meet decisions to district rival Georgetown and Atlantic 10 opponent Davidson last weekend.

The women’s side was paced by race victories in the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard breaststroke by sophomore Carly Whitmer (2:06.82) and senior Janica Lee (2:26.59), respectively.

The men’s team was led by senior Goran Koprivnjak with four top-five finishes, including three race victories. Koprivnjak won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.89), the 200-butterfly (1:54.12), and the 200-individual medley (1:56.98), before joining freshman Adam Drury and sophomores Ben Fitch and Bogdan Balteanu for a top finish in the 400-free relay.

Howard travels to the Smith Center after falling to Drexel on both the men’s and women’s sides last weekend.

Fans can follow the action live by downloading the Meet Mobile application on smartphone and iPad devices.
