Futures Qualifier Ella Epes Sends Verbal Commitment to UConn for 2022-23

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ella Epes from Newport News, Virginia has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut for the 2022-23 school year.

“I chose UConn because the coaches and team are extremely supportive, and I know that their strong training program will help me to achieve my goals.”

Epes is a rising senior at Tabb High School in Yorktown. She recently placed 4th in the 100 fly (57.54) and 5th in the 50 free (24.57) at the 2021 VHSL Class 3 Swimming and Diving Championships. She also anchored the medley relay (24.55). Her best times in both those events come from the spring of 2020. First, as a sophomore at the 2020 VHSL Class 3 State Meet, she came in 3rd in the 50 free (23.85) and 4th in the 100 fly (55.59), notching PBs in both events. Then in March, she competed at the Virginia Swimming LSC Senior Short Course Championships. She lowered her PB in the 100 fly to 55.40 and added new lifetime bests in the 200 fly (2:04.49) and 200 back (2:08.81).

Epes kicked off 2021 long course season with a flurry of lifetime-best performances at the Virginia Commonwealth meet in June. She placed 3rd in the 50 free, 3rd in the 100 free, 3rd in the 50 back, 4th in the 100 back, 3rd in the 50 fly, 3rd in the 100 fly, and 8th in the 200 fly and nabbed PBs in the 50 back (31.91), 50 fly (29.00), 100 fly (1:05.47), and 200 fly (2:34.69).

Epes does her club swimming with 757 Swim in Williamsburg. She is a Futures qualifier in the 50 free and 100/200 fly and her best SCY times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.40
  • 200 fly – 2:04.49
  • 50 free – 23.85
  • 100 free – 52.56
  • 50 back – 27.59
  • 100 back – 58.98
  • 200 back – 2:08.81

Epes will join Alexis Martino, Hannah Jyawook, Kiera Liesinger, and Paige Spencer in the UConn class of 2026. Her best times would already score in the A finals of the 100 fly and 200 fly and the B finals of the 50 free and 100 free at the 2021 Big East Championships.
