We reported earlier this week that 19-year-0ld European Short Course gold medalist Freya Anderson was among the several British swimmers set to make a training move with one more year to prepare for the next Summer Olympic Games.
After working under Alan Bircher at Ellesmere College for over 5 years, freestyle ace Anderson has decided to join the British Swimming National Training Centre at Bath University. There, she’ll be under the tutelage of Dave McNulty, with swimmers James Guy, Tom Dean and more.
“This is the right time for a new start,” Anderson says in a video provided by British Swimming. “I’m forever grateful to Alan and Ellesmere, though.”
Anderson walks us through her daily routine at home under quarantine, one that involves a rotation of non-swimming cardio to the tune of running, biking and rowing. She’s not shy about calling out the one she despises the most out of that trio. The multi-European Championships and Commonwealth Games medalist also incorporates core work and weights to keep fit while out of the pool.
Anderson says she sees the Olympic delay to next summer as a positive, seeing the extra year to train ‘as beneficial for everyone.’
