Emma Terebo of Nouméa, the capital of French territory New Caledonia, has verbally committed to swim at Florida State University next fall. “I chose Florida State because it is a great and prestigious university. Besides, belonging to the swimming team is a great honor and being part of this amazing adventure with the new head Coach Neal Studd and all the other coaches is so exciting! I will give the best for the team and I can’t wait to join the Seminoles family!”
Terebo is a backstroker and sprint freestyler who has been setting age group records since she was 14 years old. She won the national title in the 100m back for 15-16 girls in April 2014, and was silver medalist in the 50 free and 100 free. Terebo represented France at the 2014 European Junior Swimming Championships in Dordrecht, Netherlands, and also at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. At the 2015 Oceanic Championships, Terebo won 8 gold medals as part of the New Caledonia squad. She participated in the 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships at Wingate Institute in Netanya, Israel, and has just returned from FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup 2016 #7 in Singapore.
In backstroke, Terebo has been more successful in short course than in long course, which bodes well for her ability to adapt to the yards format. Her best times (converted using the Speedo Time Converter):
