Freestyler Justin Schneider (2022) Sends Verbal Commitment to Nittany Lions

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Justin Schneider from Murrieta, California has announced his verbal commitment to Pennsylvania State University for 2022-23.

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Penn State University. I am looking forward to continuing my academic and swimming career as a Nittany Lion. Thank you to the Penn State coaches and Team for helping me make this choice during such an unusual recruiting season. I want to thank my parents, siblings, family, TMEC coaches and teammates for always pushing me each day. I look forward to start my training at Penn State in the fall of 2022. #WeAre”

Schneider is a junior at Murrieta Mesa High School. He is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and, in his lone high school swim season, a two-time A-finalist at the 2019 CIF Southern Section Division 2 Championships. Schneider placed 8th in the 200 free (1:41.11, the only 9th grader in the A final) and 5th in the 500 free (4:33.77) at the section meet. He led off the 200 medley relay in 24.92 and anchored the 200 free relay with 20.90. His sophomore season in the spring of 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic and his junior season is still up in the air.

Schneider does his year-round swimming with Temecula Swim Club under head coach Jenn Beech. He has been on our radar as an impressively rangy freestyler for several years and was recognized as such in the 2017 Swammy Awards for 11-12 Boys.

Schneider’s last big racing opportunity was in February 2020 when he competed at Carlsbad Sectionals. He finaled in the 100 free (15th), 1000 free (8th), 100 back (23rd), 200 fly (26th), and 400 IM (19th) and updated his times in the 100/1000 free, 100 back, 100/200 fly, and 400 IM. At Winter Juniors West in December 2019, he notched PBs in the 200/1650 free. Given the dearth of meets in Southern California this past fall, he swam at a couple of meets in Arizona at the end of the 2020, picking up new times in the 100 breast and 200 IM.

Schneider has Winter Juniors cuts in all the freestyle distances in the LCM pool, most of which he earned at 2019 Mt. Hood Futures (1:54.81/4:04.69/8:29.55/16:13.22) when he was still 14.

Best SCY times:

  • 50 free – 21.06
  • 100 free – 45.95
  • 200 free – 1:40.93
  • 500 free – 4:30.34
