Former San Antonio Swim Coach Arrested on Sexual Abuse Charges

A former swim coach in Texas has been arrested and accused of sexually abusing a child over a period of several years.

According to local news station KSATJames Schweggman was arrested last Thursday on five counts of “continuous sexual abuse of a child.” Schweggman was a swim coach at Warren High School since August 2009, but was placed on administrative leave at the end of last school year, when allegations of sexual abuse surfaced, per mySanAntonio.com. He resigned from his post last April.

Schweggman, 38, is accused of sexually abusing a child from 2009 to 2011. Both sites report the child was under 14 years old. MySanAntonio.com reports that Schweggman is charged with touching or making contact with the child’s genitals.

The Northside Independent School District said Schweggman didn’t have any allegations of sexual misconduct on his record when he was hired. He’ll now face anywhere from 5 years to life in prison if convicted. Schweggman was indicted by a grand jury, but was released from custody after posting bail, set at $75,000.
