Former Penn State All-American Kaitlyn Ferguson will return to the Nittany Lions’ program as an assistant coach, the program announced on Monday.
“We are very excited to have Kaitlyn,” said Murphy. “We think she will step right in and contribute and help the student-athletes in and out of the pool. We are going to rely on her perspective. It’s always nice to have a Penn Stater back and we are happy to have her.”
This is an interesting hire in that Ferguson, while a Penn State alum, didn’t swim for Murphy, so this ties together the program’s history with the new regime in a small way.
Ferguson earned an Honorable Mention All-American honor in 2008 as a part of the 16th-place 400 medley relay team
Her coaching resume includes time spent as an assistant high school coach with Mamaroneck High School in New York and with the Badger Swim Club. Since graduation, she also spent three years working as a Therapy Aide at the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.
She still ranks as the 5th-fastest 100 yard backstroker in program history, having been a 53.75 in 2009.
