Former Captain Stefanie Williams Inducted to Georgia Circle of Honor

Stefanie Williams, currently an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s programs, has been chosen for induction into the University of Georgia Circle of Honor.

Williams swam for the Bulldogs from 1998 through 2002, which marked the rise of the program to the national powerhouse that it is today. The Bulldogs won the first 3 NCAA titles in program history in 1999, 2000, and 2001, Williams’ freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons, and was named a team captain during her senior year.

In total, she earned 28 All-American selections, which is the maximum number possible, in addition to 4 NCAA Championships in relays.

Her current boss, and former Olympic team coach, Jack Bauerle once referred to her as one of the greatest competitors ever in Georgia swimming.

She was also a part of American Record setting 200 and 400 free relays in 2002 during her senior year, where Georgia as a team finished 2nd behind Auburn.

Individually, she took 2 SEC titles in the 200 freestyle to go with 10 conference titles in relays, and as a senior she was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Now, with Williams returned as an assistant coach, the Georgia women’s team is on a roll, having won 3 more championships (2013, 2014, 2016) during her most recent run. That brings Williams up to 10 total NCAA titles (team and event) with the Georgia program.
