Florida’s Dressel, Pearl Garner SEC Accolades

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The SEC announced its weekly honors for swimming and diving on Tuesday. Florida junior Sherridon Dressel earned SEC Swimmer of the Week, while Vanessa Pearl earned the SEC Freshman of the Week.

In the first weekend after the New Year, Dressel made a huge statement winning seven of the eight events she was entered in. Dressel posted a season-best mark of 49.04 in her 100 Free win on day two, it was also the fastest time in the SEC since Dec. 4 and 11th fastest for the year in the SEC. Dressel’s time in the 100 Free is the second-fastest mark in the NCAA since Dec. 4. She posted an NCAA B Cut in the 100 Back with a time of 52.79, which is also the fastest time in the conference and the NCAA since Dec. 4. The 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay, and 200 Medley Relay teams that Dressel was on posted the fastest times in the NCAA since Dec. 4.

Pearl’s times in the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM were the fastest times by a freshman in the SEC since Dec. 4. She scored points for the team total in every event. Pearl contributed to the 200 Medley Relay team that has the fastest time in the NCAA since Dec. 4. Pearl’s time in the 200 Breast is the third best in the NCAA since Dec. 4. Her 400 IM time is second best in the NCAA since Dec. 4.

The Gators return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 26, for a dual meet against Auburn in Auburn, Alabama.
