Florida HS 2A State Runner-Up Chloe Hernandez Sends Verbal to George Washington

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

George Washington University has received a verbal commitment from sprint specialist Chloe Hernandez for their class of 2025. She is a year-round swimmer at Gulliver Swim Club and she is in her final year at Gulliver Preparatory School. Her mother and aunt were both scholar-athletes at Indiana University.

I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at George Washington University! I want to thank my friends, family, and Coaches for supporting me throughout this process. I can’t wait to be a part of such an exceptional team. Thank you Coach Thomas and Coach Stefl! Go Colonials! #raisehigh

Hernandez most recently competed at the Florida High School 2A State Championship in Stuart, FL. She swam the 50 free and the 100 fly, making it back in the top 8 in each event. She was seeded first after prelims in the 50 free (23.82), but dropped to second in finals, finishing 0.02 seconds behind Mary Hardman of Lake Wales. She posted a personal best time of 57.48 in prelims for the 100 fly, and touched 7th in finals.

Hernandez also led off Gulliver Preparatory’s 200 free relay in a time of 24.08 and she anchored their 400 free relay, splitting a 100 free time of 51.62.

Her 50 and 100 free times at the 2019 state championships were 2019 Futures qualifying times while her 100 fly at the 2020 meet earned her a new cut.

Hernandez was the state champion in the 50 free her sophomore year and was runner-up her junior year. She finished third in the event her freshman year. She was named captain of the Gulliver Preparatory women’s team her junior and senior year.

Hernandez was named 2019 Miami-Dade County Girls’ Swimmer of the Year for her high school performances. She was also a finalist for the 2019 Miami-Dade Class 4A-1A Female Athlete of the Year award. Additionally, she is the Florida Gulf Coast LSC student-athlete representative.

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 23.78
  • 100 free – 52.08
  • 100 breast – 1:06.70
  • 100 fly – 57.48
  • 100 IM – 59.95

Hernandez will join the 2020 Atlantic 10 Conference champions in the fall of 2021. George Washington has a strong sprint group, including Meghan Burton who was the 50 free runner-up at the 2020 conference meet. Hernandez’s 50 free time would have made her the team’s 5th fastest swimmer and her 100 free would have placed her 8th among the Colonials.

George Washington has already picked up verbals from distance freestyler Taylor Bernosky, sprinter Moriah Freitas, and Irish-national Julia Knox for their class of 2025.
