Florida Backstroker Kara Wilkins Commits to In-State FAU for 2017-18

Kara Wilkins, a senior at Sunlake High School in Land O’ Lakes, Florida, has committed to swim for Florida Atlantic University beginning with the 2017-18 season. “I decided to go to FAU because the coaching staff and team was exactly what I was looking for. They felt like a family and I felt like it was a second home. It felt like the perfect fit.”

Wilkins has been a championship finalist in the 100 back at the Florida state high school championships the last three years in a row. While her best time comes from the 2015 state meet, Wilkins nonetheless earned individual points for the Seahawks at the 2016 FHSAA Class 3A Championships placing 8th in the 100 back and 16th in the 100 fly. She also led off Sunlake’s 200 medley and 400 free relays, which finished 6th and 10th, respectively.

Wilkins swims year-round for Academy Aquatic Club. Her top SCY events are:

  • 50 back – 27.53
  • 100 back – 57.34
  • 200 back – 2:04.60
  • 100 fly – 57.55
  • 200 fly – 2:06.63
  • 200 IM – 2:11.92
  • 400 IM – 4:36.93

She will join Abby Marshall, Allyson Schwarz, Ashlyn Hunt, Miah Lopez, and Miranda Fellowes on the Owls’ roster next fall.
