Florida All-American Dan Wallace Suspended Indefinitely for “Violation of Team Rules”

Florida All-American Dan Wallace has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.

We are disappointed in some of the choices Dan Wallace made,” head coach Gregg Troy said of his star. “Because of his actions he will be suspended from team activities indefinitely. Any decisions regarding a change to his status will be addressed internally.”

Wallace had a phenomenal junior season for the Gators in the pool, placing 2nd at NCAA’s in the 500 free (4:11.62), 2nd in the 400 IM (3:38.17), and 2nd as a member of Florida’s 800 free relay.

Wallace was also named to the 2014 Commonwealth Games squad representing his home country of Scotland. Scotland has not responded to a request for comment as to if his status is affected for that meet.

Wallace himself has also not responded to a direct request for comment.

I’m not sure if this was previously reported, but it looks like this has bigger implications than just getting suspended from his college team.

Dan looks to be in great form at the CWG. He just cruised a 4.11 in the heats of the 400IM. For the record, most Europeans (especially Scots) cant understand the alcohol aversion in some of the states. This is a slap on the wrist at most in the UK. Give the dude a break….he didn’t even headbutt anybody…..otherwise referred to as giving somebody a “Glasgow Kiss”. Go Scotland!

He is not a “disgrace” for making a mistake. He is a “disgrace” for peeing on a cop car. We’ve all made mistakes in our lives, but we all haven’t been RIDICULOUSLY IDIOTIC enough to do that. That is no minor offense, and the consequences SHOULD be severe, if the UF coaches have any moral standards at all. The thrown stones are justified in some cases. I hear from people at UF that his grades aren’t exactly top-notch either, so don’t just blame it on the alcohol. This kid would be out the door, no question, if not for his speed.
Will the team compromise on their morals just because he’s fast?? I respect UF so hopefully not….

KORN- it sounds like you know Dan personally. And if what you say is true I hope he learns from this and changes his ways.

Bottom line: Give this kid a second chance. He should not be kicked off the team. Obviously he made a mistake, and in case some of you have forgotten (which its apparent from some of the previous comments that some of you have) we all make mistakes. There is no reason to bring race into this, this has nothing to do with him being white. Why race was even brought up is ridiculous. There is not one college/university in this country that has any dry sports team (maybe BYU) so to say that Dan is a discrace to his team because he drank, give me a break. The important thing to watch for is if he will learn from his… Read more »

I don’t think he is a normal college kid who goes to the bar and has a few drinks. He parties HARD and gets out of control ALL THE TIME. He has a problem and maybe he will learn from this…..but probably not!

Troy will let him get away with things because he is an asset to his team and his eligibility alone will sway Florida’s results at both SECs and NCAA on a high level.

I love how, when white college guys do idiotic and illegal things it’s just “immaturity.” When people of color who are not college athletes do the same things they’re just thugs. This guy should not get off lightly. But I’m sure he will…

Sadly, you’re correct. If this was an African American football player, do you think fans would react the same way? Food for thought.

If said African-American was the starting WR at a Div. 1 school, you would not have heard a word.

This individual is a VISITOR to our COUNTRY. He has no right to disrespect the people that serve and protect us and keep us out of danger. I hope he’s never allowed back on the team.

I did not say that a student is not allowed to drink.
I am talking about student – athletes.
Maybe you, collegeswimmer, “ignore” the rules…

Has alcohol been recently added to the banned substance list?
