Fabien Gilot says France missed USA and Australia in 400 Free Relay Final – Video

2013 World Champion: France – 3:11.18
World Record: 3:08.24 – United States – 2008
Championship Record: 3:09.21 – United States – 2009

Via FINA: After a huge “tsunami” hit the preliminaries in the morning, with the non-qualification of the US team for the final, France revalidated the 2013 world title in a time of 3:10.74. The European team is always one of the quartets to watch in this event and was certainly one of the favourites to win, but things became easier with the unexpected and shocking 11th place of the US squad in the heats.

He’s a relay legend!
In the relay since 2003!
He always gives everything in relay.
Imagine he swam a 47.08 split yesterday while his level in individual is around 48.50.
It’s amazing to always see that transformation when he swims in a team.

Read my mind Bobo!

Love Gilot – class act and a worthy Captain of the French Team.

“things became easier….”
Sorry but the person who wrote that is really stupid. I don’t see what it would have changed in final if the US relay had qualified. Even with Adrian and Lochte, they would have finished about 2 or 3 seconds behind. 🙄

That’s a fact.

While I agree they would have lost regardless, I did point out before though that if you took the fastest leadoff and then the fastest three legs from Worlds, Pan Ams, and University Games for the US, they would have finished 2nd in prelims. If you added in Lochte and Adrian for the final, I doubt they would’ve won, but they could’ve been relatively close. I’m not too worried about USA sprinting at the moment
