Erik Persson Edges Own SCM 200 Breaststroke Swedish Record at ISL Match 10

2021 INTERNATIONAL SWIMMING LEAGUE – SEASON 3, MATCH 10

Team Iron’s Erik Persson shaved 0.41 seconds off his own Swedish national record in the men’s short course meters 200 breaststroke at Match 10 of the International Swimming League’s third season.

Persson went 2:02.39 for the event win, besting second-place finisher Daiya Seto by 0.09 seconds. He also jackpotted Bernhard Reitshammer (his own teammate) and James Wilby, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Persson split 28.54/31.26/31.27/31.32 to better his prior record of 2:20.80, which he swam at the 2019 European Championships. Persson’s improvement was mostly thanks to his last 50: at Euros, he split 28.45/31.19/31.29/31.87.

The two-time Olympian is also the Swedish record holder in the short course 100 breaststroke (57.83) and long course 100 and 200 breaststroke (1:00.08 and 2:07.66)

Persson, 26, competed in the 100 and 200 breast at the Tokyo Olympics. He advanced the final in the latter, finishing eighth in 2:08.88.
