Egyptian Breaststroker Tarek Aboelthana Commits to Golden Grizzlies

Tarek Aboelthana of Alexandria, Egypt has committed to swim for Oakland University beginning in the fall of 2017. Aboelthana is a breaststroke specialist who has swum as a member of the Egyptian National Team. Aboelthana, who has Winter Junior National qualifying times in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, graduated from high school in 2016 and is currently swimming at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Virginia where he is a member of their Post Graduate swimming program. While in Egypt, he swam year round for his club program, Smouha.

In his short time at Fork Union, Aboelthana has already set school records in the 100 breast and 200 breast. He is also a strong freestyler; he competed in the 100 free (54.42) as well as both breaststrokes at the 2015 Egyptian National Championships. His top times are as follows:

Short Course Yards:

  • 100 Breaststroke – 57.09
  • 200 Breaststroke – 2:03.48

Long Course Meters:

  • 100 Breaststroke – 1:06.69
  • 200 Breaststroke – 2:26.57

Aboelthana will join fellow commits Mack Flowers and Rudy Aguilar in the Oakland University class of 2021.
