The psych sheets for the 2013 USA Swimming Winter Junior Short Course National Championships have been released. The meet runs from next Thursday, December 12th, to Saturday, December 14th, in Greensboro, North Carolina at the newly-renovated Greensboro Aquatic Center.

This meet has stout attendance, as it always does, this season, and among the attendees will be Bolles senior, and University of Florida commit, Caeleb Dressel. Dressel, a multi-time National Age Group Record holder, is entered in the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyles, the 100 fly, and a bit of a new event for himself the 100 breast, where he’s the 10th seed in 55.19.
That sprint 50 free will be one of the more exciting events of the meet. Dressel’s top seed is followed by a #2 of Ryan Hoffer from the Scottsdale Aquatic Club, who comes in with a 19.55 after breaking Dressel’s 15-16 National Age Group Record last month at the Arizona High School State Championships. Following them will be Texas commit Brett Ringgold, Michigan commit Paul Powers (who was just a 19.58 at senior nationals), and Dylan Carter, who will join the USC Trojans in January, as sub 20-second seeds.
The women’s breaststroke field will also be relatively stacked, and representing all parts of the country. Lindsey Horejsi, Heidi Poppe, Kennedy Lohman, and Carolyn McCann all come in seeded better than 1:01, and another 6 swimmers sit at under 1:02.
That includes Kathleen Baker, who has a packed schedule before heading off to the Duel in the Pool the week after this meet – she’s at senior Nationals this week, juniors next weekend, and the Duel the weekend after. Her entries in Greensboro will be relatively light, though, with entries only in the 100 fly and 100 breast.
The depth at this year’s meet is unbelievable – arguably it will be a deeper meet than the senior version going on in Knoxville this weekend.
Can somebody explain why Michael Andrew is allowed to swim at Junior Nationals ? Attending swimmers had to sign a waiver form from US Swimming stating that “we are amateur Athletes”. He has officially turned pro so technically he should not be allowed to compete at this meet?
DE Swimmer – we’re unaware of any regulation that swimmers be amateurs to swim at Junior Nationals. Perhaps that is some sort of NCAA protection, as no such rule is mentioned in the USA Swimming rules book. 2. All USA Swimming athlete members eighteen (18) years of age and under who have met
the qualifying time standard for a specific event, are eligible to participate.
Braden – yesterday I shared the document with you where in the first paragraph it says “I verify the events in which I am entered and that I am a registered amateur athlete according to the US swimming Code of regulation. ”
amateur – a person who engages in a pursuit, esp. a sport, on an unpaid basis.

Last year was Dylan Carter’s arrival. His teammate from Trinidad, Joshua Romany’s will do his first yards meet shave. Look out for him.
Lindsey Engel is a future Stanford swimmer.
Janet Hu, Lia Neal, Simone Manuel and Maddy Schaefer have all shined the last few weeks.
I think she must be very motivated to swim a 21 in the 50 free and a 48 low in the 100 free at these junior nationals.
Next year, Stanford will have a super crazy sprints talent. Even with Missy, CAL may not even win 2015 NCAA.
These US junior nationals will miss all the Potomac Valley young talents (Tom Dolan Invitational the same week) but there are enough great swimmers to have good battles and probably a few meet and NAG records. I agree, the depth is big.
If Caeleb Dressel still has enough gas, he could crush a few records there. I just wonder how he will manage his 7th or 8th tapered meet of the year. If he’s at his best, a sub 19 in the 50 free and a sub 43 in the 10 free are possible.
Cool to see Ryan Hoffer and Michael Andrew too. They have also much swum the last few weeks but some NAG records could fall.

I can’t speak for him, but if I had to guess, I’d say probably just cause that’s where Bolles is going. Having swam against him since we were 8, I can tell you he’s kinda just a go with the flow guy haha
He doesn’t go to the Bolles School, he just swims club there. He is a Senior at Clay High School, Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Correct, but this is a club meet and he represents Bolles at club meets.
