Dressel Breaks Another Barrier with 39.9 100 Free

Florida’s Caeleb Dressel has been smashing barriers all week. Dressel, a senior, set out to make history individually one last time for the Gators in tonight’s 100 free final. After a scorching 40.00 last season, he set out to be the first man to break 40 seconds. Dressel exceeded expectations as usual, surging to an incredible 39.90 to win the final.

Dressel’s Splits:

  • 1st 50 Split- 18.96
  • 2nd 50 Split- 20.94

While Dressel dominated the field, NC State’s Ryan Held had an awesome swim in his own right. Held swam to a 41.08, clipping his best time by .01 and tying Olympic champion Nathan Adrian as the 5th fastest man ever.

He is indeed a shark

And a goat!

Is it bad that I’m actually kind of disappointed that the margin was only .1? Hoping he leads the relay and can drop it even more

Daniel Jablonski

You’re not alone

Jim

He looks gassed. This is the last day of a very long meet, him giving his best. I don’t think he’s leading off but if he did, I doubt it would be any faster. I think he could go sub 40 if he anchors and plays catch up

Dee

To be honest, I think people were expecting a bit much saying 38high – Swimming isn’t linear, his 100fr last year may have been perfect, or his 50fr may have been a bad swim. You just don’t know. Improvements rarely got across the board in identical percentages. I think it was a superb swim!

Pvdh

Nah, his swim was pretty off in the individual, just from watching it. We’ll get a better idea later when he probably leads off the relay. He did say the relay was his focus tonight.

Dee

I’ll say 39mid!

Let’s give him a break ……..

39.50 lead off later tonight.
