Following the resignation of Bruce Gemmell, who left to take over a site at Nation’s Capital Swim Club (formerly Curl Burke), the Delaware Swim Team has given Sean Dougherty the reigns to their Senior National Group.

Dougherty has been with the team for 11 years, serving as their Program Director. He was also the Middle Atlantic Coach of the Year in 2007. He was the coach predominantly responsible for four-time Delaware Swimmer of the Year Tanner Kurz, who is a freshman at Indiana this season.

He will now take over the National Team group that includes most significantly recent Virginia recruit Kaitlyn Jones. Other top swimmers in that group are Annie Nunes (50.9 100 yard freestyler), Bryan Panaccione (21.9 50 yard freestyler, 53.1 100 yard backstroker), and Matt Stasiunas (4:02 400 long course freestyler).

The club will also give former Auburn All-American Rory Connell the opportunity to work with the Senior National Staff. He has previously worked with the Junior National Group.

(Editor’s note: Coach Dougherty’s birthday was this past Saturday, the same day it was announced Gemmell would be leaving. Happy Birthday!)
