Kendall Brent, who swims for Swim Florida and Fort Meyers High School, has made a verbal commitment* to Yale University’s class of 2020. Brent is a distance freestyler with 2016 Olympic Trials cuts in both the 400m and 800m freestyles. She was top-8 in the 800 and 1500, and top 16 in the 400 free, at Summer Junior Nationals in San Antonio this past August.

“I chose Yale because of the balance between athletics and academics. Their team dynamic is inspiring and I’m certain that I can grow both as an athlete and as a person under the guidance of Coach Jim Henry. Can’t wait to be a bulldog!! Boola Boola!!!”

Brent will join Henry’s group with top-5 Ivy times in all three distance events:

  SCY LCM
1650/1500 16:24.43 16:33.87
1000/800 9:46.05 8:43.27
500/400 4:47.46 4:15.19
200 free 1:50.15 2:04.75

Yale has been dominating the distance freestyle events over the last several years, with National Teamer and open water specialist Eva Fabian leading the charge. Fabian and then-freshman Cailley Silbert went 3-4 in the 500, 1-2 in the 1000, and tied for first place in the 1650 at last year’s Ivy League Women’s Championships. Adding Brent to the mix will ensure the Bulldogs’ dominance of distance free events in the Ivy League.

*DISCLAIMER: Brent has not yet been officially accepted to Yale. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Yale’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Brent is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support her application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2020.
