Dolfin Swim of the Week: Morozov’s 25.51 in 50 Breast

Disclaimer: Dolfin Swim of the Week is not meant to be a conclusive selection of the best overall swim of the week, but rather one Featured Swim to be explored in deeper detail. The  Dolfin Swim is an opportunity to take a closer look at the context of one of the many fast swims this week, perhaps a swim that slipped through the cracks as others grabbed the headlines, or a race we didn’t get to examine as closely in the flood of weekly meets.

An elite sprinter across multiple strokes, Vladimir Morozov torched the 6th-best performance of all-time in the 50 breaststroke to win a Short Course European title.

The Russian 27-year-old went 25.51 (in short course meters) to win that Euro title. That’s the fastest time for any European in history, and also set a meet record. Here’s a look at where Morozov checks in on the top all-time performances:

  1. Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) – 25.25  (2009 World Cup Berlin)
  2. Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) – 25.41 (2018 World Champs)
  3. Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) – 25.43 (2009 South African Championships)
  4. Roland Schoeman (RSA) – 25.45 (2009 World Cup Berlin)
  5. Cameron van der Burgh (RSA) – 25.49 (2017 World Cup Berlin)
  6. Vladimir Morozov (RUS) – 25.51 (2019 European Champs)

Three of the swims ahead of him were done in the super-suit era of 2009. Only two Cameron van der Burgh swims rank ahead of Morozov’s since the banning of the suits a decade ago.
