Distance Swimmer Summer Raymer Commits to Youngstown State

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Summer Raymer from Monroeville, PA has announced her commitment to swim and study at Youngstown State University beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year.

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Youngstown State University. I am so thankful for the support from my family, friends, and coaches who have helped me get to where I am today. I cannot wait for the future with my ‘Guins!’”

Raymer swims for Racer X Aquatics out of Aspinwall, PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh. At the beginning of March, she swam at the AAA (small schools) Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Championships and earned a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:07.26) and a seventh-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:56.54).

At the end of March, she earned a 16th-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:06.23) and a 12th-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (10:36.73) while at the Senior Keystone Classic.

This summer, Raymer earned a third place finish in the long course 200 freestyle (2:16.00) while at the Allegheny Mountain LC Junior Olympics.

Raymer began her senior year this fall at Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, PA.

Her best short course times are:

  • 200 freestyle: 1:54.13
  • 500 freestyle: 5:00.88
  • 1000 freestyle: 10:15.79
  • 1650 freestyle: 17:36.16

Youngstown State University is a public university located in Youngstown, Ohio. The school is a member of the Horizon League.

The Penguin women finished seventh out of seven teams at the 2021 Horizon League Championships. Freshman Jael Dankle finished third in the 1650 freestyle (17:17.94) as well as fifth in the 500 freestyle (5:01.59).

Raymer has the potential to make an immediate impact for the Penguins at both the conference level and in school history. Her best times would have earned her ‘A’ final finishes in 500 and 1650 freestyles as well as a ‘B’ final finish in the 200 freestyle. Her best times also place her top 10 in all-time school history in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyles.

Raymer will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Abby Perry, Kylie McKeegan, and Zoe Gallagher.
