Distance swimmer Alexa Connors makes verbal commitment to Richmond for 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Alexa Connors of Silver Lake Regional High School and Kingfish Swimming in Kingston, Massachusetts, has announced her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Richmond in the fall of 2020. A distance freestyler, Connors has career best times in the 500 and 1,650-yard freestyles that would have been the second fastest time on the team behind senior Nicole Piercy and would have landed her 7th and 9th respectively on the Richmond All-Time Top Ten list.

Connors was the 2019 Massachusetts Division 1 High School state champion in both the 200 and 500-yard freestyles (1:50.84 and 4:53.14 respectively). At the 2019 New England 15-18 Age Group Championship meet, she won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.25), took 2nd place in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:00.26), and 3rd place in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyles (4:58.11 and 10:10.32 respectively).

Best Times in Yards:

  • 200 free – 1:49.75
  • 500 free – 4:52.82
  • 1650 free – 16:58.76

While Connors seems to excel more as the distance goes up, she will arguably make the biggest impact in the 200-yard freestyle. Her career-best time would have been the third fastest flat start on the team behind seniors Morgan Soulia and Lauren Wallace, and had she been on the 800 free relay for Richmond at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship meet, the relay would have been 1.75 seconds faster and would have broken the school record in the process. Connors will join backstroker Katelyn Pennell as the second swimmer to commit to Richmond for the class of 2024.
