Distance Freestyler Hannah Sakaluk Verbally Commits to Indiana University

Hannah Sakaluk, of Waves Bloomington-Normal YMCA, has committed to join the IU women’s distance group in the fall of 2015. Sakaluk is a senior at University High School in Normal, Illinois, and trains year-round in the WAVES Performance squad.

“Hannah brings a high degree of mental focus and positive attitude to her daily training.  The result has been steady improvement each year since becoming a WAVES athlete.  Joining the team as an “A” level swimmer, she has progressed to being a Junior National qualifier.

“She enjoys the process of learning and brings a growth mentality to her daily training and her competitions,” says her WAVES coach, Charles Yourd. “Hannah’s limitless thinking and enjoyment of training has produced time improvements every year she has been on the team, and included a 12-second drop in her 500 freestyle from her junior to senior year.”

Sakaluk was the 2014 Central Zone 5K Open Water champion, and is USA Swimming Scholastic All America Team member for the 2013-2014 year with a 4.0 GPA.

Sakaluk is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 800m freestyle, and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 500y free, 400m free, and 1500m free. Her best freestyle times are:
