Makoa Montgomery of Salem, IL has announced her decision to swim for Augustana University beginning in the 2021-2022 season. She is graduating from high school in the spring of 2021 and she swims year-round for the O’Fallon Seahawks.

Montgomery has 2021 Futures qualifying times in the 50-yard and 50-meter freestyle. In August of 2019, she competed at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Des Moines. She swam the 50, 100, and 400 free, touching 58th, 82nd, and 49th, respectively. She also did a time trial for the 50 free and the 100 fly.
Earlier this month, Montgomery competed at the Speedo Sectionals Championships in Jenks, OK. She swam the 50, 100, 200, 400, and 800 free, and the 100 fly. She earned a spot in the C-final of the 50 free, winning the heat in finals in a time of 27.31.

The Vikings will welcome Montgomery to the team in the fall of 2021. When she arrives, she will be one of their fastest sprinters. Her best 50 free time would have been the team’s fastest during the 2020-2021 season. She would also have posted the top time in the 100 and 200 free and the 100 and 200 fly this season.
Augustana University finished 5th at the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champs. Senior Taylor Beagle was named NISC Swimmer of the Year and Swimmer of the Meet after winning 3 gold medals and one bronze at the 2021 conference meet. She qualified for and competed at the 2021 NCAA DII Championships. Montgomery’s top times would have placed her in the A-final of each of her best events at the conference champs.
