Denison Swimmers Kustritz, Kurlich Qualify for US Olympic Trials

GRANVILLE, Ohio–  Denison University swimmers KT Kustritz and Richie Kurlich qualified for the 2020 United States Olympic Trials at Denison’s LCM Time Trials on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.  The 2020 US Olympic Trials will take place on June 21-28 at the CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.

Kustritz qualified in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:09.64.  The official time standard set by USA Swimming is 1:10.99.

Kurlich qualified in the 200-meter breaststroke, touching in 2:16.47, dropping 3.44 seconds off his previous best in the event.  The official time standard set by USA Swimming is 2:17.89.

A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Kustritz is a five-time national champion, 20-time All-American, and current Division III national record-holder in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.77).  She competed at the 2019 Phillips 66 National Championship in Palo Alto, California, placing 60th in the LCM 100-meter breaststroke.

Just a sophomore, Kurlich hails from Kent, Ohio and is a three-time All-American who finished sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke at last year’s NCAA Division III Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Also qualifying for Olympic trials at Denison’s LCM Time Trials was Eastern Michigan University senior Casey Gavigan who posted a time of 1:02.11 to qualify in the women’s 100-meter backstroke.  In all, 20 LCM time trials were held with 70 entries.
