David Plummer Named NYAC Athlete of the Year

Olympic gold medalist David Plummer has been named the Athlete of the Year for the New York Athletic Club.

The New York Athletic Club banner has covered a number of elite athletes and Olympic hopefuls across various sports. In swimming, Katie Meili, Breeja Larson, Jimmy Feigen, Kim Vandenberg and Adam Mania have competed for NYAC alongside Plummer.

At age 30, Plummer made his first Olympic team last summer. That came after the disappointment of a narrow third-place finish at the 2012 Olympic Trials, when the two qualifiers ahead of him went on to take Olympic gold and silver. Plummer took on another brutal 100 back field this year, making the team over 2012 Olympic champ Matt Grevers.

Plummer would go on to take bronze in the individual 100 back, and later led off the American 4×100 medley relay in heats, earning Olympic gold for Team USA.

“It was an honor to receive the New York Athletic Club’s Athlete of the Year Award,” Plummer said in a statement provided to SwimSwam this week. “I was proud to wear the winged foot while I was competing and I can’t thank NYAC enough for their support.”
