Freshman Misha Tovmashenko and junior James Verhagen provided the high notes of the day for the Big Green, as each secured a win in front of the home crowd. Tovmashenko led a 1-2 Dartmouth freshman sweep in the 200 free: he touched in 1:41.91, while classmate Tony Shen came in at 1:42.29 for second.

Verhagen (1:52.87) won the 200 back in clear water, the closest competitor being Columbia’s Thomas Norman at 1:54.35. In the 100 back, Columbia’s David Jakl edged Verhagen, 50.48 to 50.54 for the win.

Columbia dominated the rest of the morning at Karl Michael Pool. The all-senior quartet of Jakl, Stanley Wong, Kevin Quinn, and Alex Ngan won the 200 medley relay to begin the meet. They edged Dartmouth’s Verhagen, Aaron Athanas, David Harmon, and Ian Woon, 1:32.15 to 1:32.37.

Nikita Bondarenko (9:44.93) led teammate Jae Park to a 1-2 finish in the 1000 free over Dartmouth’s Logan Briggs. Park later won the 100 breast (57.44) and 200 breast (2:07.14); Dartmouth senior Jay Schulte was runner-up both times.

Kevin Quinn touched out Harmon in the 100 fly, 50.32 to 50.92. Quinn also won the 200 fly in 1:48.92, while Dartmouth freshman Zack Browne led the rest of the field with his 1:54.03 second-place finish. Browne pulled off another second in the 500 free (4:45.61), losing to Michal Zyla of Columbia (4:40.74) but coming in ahead of teammate Briggs (4:47.72).

Columbia’s sprinters came up with wins in the 50 free (Wong, 20.94) and 100 free (Codi Saunders, 47.39). The Big Green picked up points in both races from second-place finishers Woon (21.39) and Athanas (47.57), respectively. Tovmashenko (47.70) was third in the 100.

Columbia’s divers Jayden Pantel (320.47) and Micah Rembrandt (313.20) went 1-2 on the 3-meter boards; Dartmouth’s Brett Gillis (308.33) placed third. Terry Li led a trio of Lions to the finish in the 200 IM, going 1:53.58. Despite a strong 45.6 anchor leg from Tovmashenko, Dartmouth’s 400 free relay fell to Columbia’s, 3:08.05 to 3:08.57.
